Going back to when I was 11 in 1955, I remember getting a smoked turkey for Christmas. It really was good and we enjoyed it throughout Christmas vacation. You did not use the word holidays then. More recent was Christmas of 1996 the day Erin the cat came to live with me

Aw, I love to see everybody's stories!
I absolutely love Christmas, and I remember back when I was little CBS showed "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" actually on Christmas Eve, when my family always does the tree. It became my very favorite and I watch it every year.
My memories of Christmas are more general, going to my grandparents' Christmas Eve night with piles and piles of presents. Then we'd get up Christmas morning and Santa had come. Then we'd go to Grandma's for Christmas dinner. Warmth and love and family.
Things are different now - the grandparents are gone and now my brother is never with us on Christmas morning (in-laws). And now Santa visits my mom and aunt too.

One time when I was real little I woke up and saw a flashing star in the sky on Christmas Eve. I was convinced it was Santa Claus flying in lol. It's what I like to believe to this day WmSportwriter I also had my first small taste of champagne as a little kid, boy did that make me sleepy!

Thanks for sharing your memories I've enjoyed them all. This time of year is very difficult for me. While I celebrate the birth of Christ I can't wait for the new year to arrive. I deal with this every winter actually as soon as fall begins I'm anxious for spring. I haven't put a tree up in 10 years. My son and his wife go all out with tree, decorations, etc. so my grand daughter has that. My sis does the same for my niece & nephew. All my family passed in fall/winter so it's really hard not to relive those times. I get so lonesome sometimes and this time of year makes me miss my family alot. We've talked about anxiety/panic attacks that some experience. I had to go to the doctor last week with these episodes, thought I was dying every night. It's this time of year. I'm looking forward to Spring I hope each of you have a wonderful Christmas! Thank you for sharing your memories, you made me smile

I was in a school play production of A Christmas Carol when I was in the sixth grade. That would have been in 1978. I played Mrs. Craitchit.

We also went to my maternal grandparents house on Christmas Eve. They lived up the street from us and we'd go after Christmas Eve Mass. All the aunts, uncles and cousins were there and we'd have a big dinner. I was 13 and still had to sit and the kiddie table in the kitchen while the adults were on the other side of the doorway in the diningroom I hated that but now I realize why I was put there. I was the oldest grandchild ,7 years older than my next cousin and it was my job to watch over them. After dinner we opened presents. One thing I would have liked to taste but I was too young was my grandfather's egg nog. I couldn't have it because it had rum in it. On Christmas Day my dad's parents came to our house. The grandparents are gone now and the cousins are scattered to the wind with their families. I miss those days.

I came from a large family. We had a big fireplace in the living room. We would lay in front of the fireplace writing our letters to Santa. First Dad would tell us that the blue flames close to the logs were elves dancing. Then he would have us roll up our Santa letters and throw them in the fire and that was how they were delivered to the North Pole. I always believed him.
