Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, has passed away at the age of 82. That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.Do you remember the July 20, 1969 moon landing? What were you doing? I graduated from high school in June 1969 and started taking classes at Marshall University the next day, so I was a 17-year old college student at the time. I watched it with my fiance who would be my husband in a couple of years. He was getting ready to go to San Diego Naval Training Center for basic training, as he had just joined the Navy. Brenda

I was 10 years old and was in charge of bashing the side of the big black and white TV when the picture went out. You had to jiggle the vacuum tubes just right to keep the signal going. I've never forgotten the event and the astronauts were my number one heroes. They were MY rock stars.
Apollo? Shirra, Cunningham, Eisele, Borman, Lovell, Anders, McDivitt, Scott, Schwiekert, Stafford, Young, Cernan, Armstrong, Aldrin, Collins, Conrad, Gordon, Bean, Haise, Swigert, Shepard, Roosa, Mitchell, Irwin, Warden, Duke, Mattingly, Schmitt, and Evans.
A very sad day.

I think I remember seeing it on television, but I'm not sure. I was about a month shy of being 3. It could have been a recording of it later on.

I was 3 years old so I do not remember it at all! My paternal Grandfather was 79 years old at the time. He always believed it was a hoax.

Very sad news..
I would have been seven months old at the time. My Mother still has a copy of a national newspaper with the headlines and pictures. The passing of time..

Time goes so fast....
Must be odd for you on this board who remember Armstrong to realize that few younger than 48 have any recollection of the guy.
