Does anyone know the story on Cora Beth? In the earlier episodes she seemed so quiet and timid. How did she turn out to b the personality seen in later episodes--I would like to know her story and where she came from. I saw her marriage to Ike. She seemed soo plain then--what changed her?

I think CoraBeth "came into her own" due to the love of a good man. And, miraculously, Ike saw the good in CB. It did exist, you know..... she was just not very good at showing it. It did come through occasionally -- those are the CB episodes I like best.

I think Ronnie Claire Edwards did a lot to develop the character of Cora Beth. She doesn't strike me as someone who would be satisfied playing the meek, shy character that we see when we first meet Cora Beth.

There were hints of Corabeth's later personality all the way from the start. I guess the writers found it easier to write if they built on them, or something like that.

I agree -- not that the writers may have found it "easier" but that it was an obvious good plan to develop her character.... Both Ronnie and Earl may well have had some involvement in this "progression."

Both Ronnie and Earl may well have had some involvement in this "progression." Yes, well perhaps 'easier' was the wrong word. Perhaps they saw that there was a lot more potential for her to be developed as she was, rather than to leave her as she is in The Matchmakers. It would be interesting to see if anybody prefers her initial characterisation, does anybody?

I loved how her character evolved and was ever changing. Not only could she be somewhat of a snob her softer side came thru. A few of my favorites with her were when Ike had his heart attack and the true Love she had or him came thru. When she developed a drinking problem was in my opinion one of her best episodes. I really love the episode where she and Jim Bob were having difficulties and he finds her with a flat tire and ends up kissing her on the check...... A really good moment.

Joe Conley commented in his book that Earl really enjoyed developing the character - it's been a while since I read it, but I think it was about Ronnie Clare's acting - perhaps someone else remembers the quote.

I don't think the Cora Beth we first saw would have ended up being as interesting & well liked had Ronnie chose or was asked to remain meek & mild. I loved her b/c of her snotty, firm, proud, dogmatic personality and her undeniable love for Ike. She didn't like showing her weak side but when we saw it Ronnie Claire could become a soft tender hearted soul. I loved her from the beginning, thanks to the brilliant acting ability of Ronnie Clair Edwards. She & Jon Conley were the perfect couple!

I liked the episode The Pearls where Corabeth sister Orma Lee comes for a visit also played by Ronnie Claire Edwards
