Often see people here writing about how much they like the Baldwins, or Yancy, or Ike, or Corabeth etc. But one character I don't see get much praise is Miss Hunter. I think she's excellent, and I always thought it was a shame that she just disappears after Season 5 and never comes back. So I just thought I'd make a little thread for Miss Hunter ;D

I agree and I would like to know who the real Ms. Hunter was in Mr. Hamner's life

AR15, I agree with you. I'm not one of those who dislikes everything in the post-Richard Thomas years but, the Reverand and Mrs. Fordwick were sorely missed. The school centered episodes were some of my favorites.

She was one of my favorites. She helped John Boy out so much and encouraged him. One of all time fav episodes was about her actually. The one where Lootie Baschum burnt the school down.

I think she was the next strongest supporting character after Ike. She may not have had as many scenes as Ike or the Baldwins, but she sure had a lot of influence on John Boy.

She left the Waltons as we said to do other things. Remember she was in a Little House epiosode shortly after she left the Waltons

I agree that the characters of Rosemary Hunter and Rev. Fordwick were sorely missed, and I've wondered why they were written out. Maybe the actors left the series of their own choice. Perhaps it was because Richard Thomas was leaving. I always felt that they left a void, though. Other preachers came to pastor the church, and other teachers taught in the school, but none of them were really significant characters after Rev. Fordwick and Miss Hunter left Waltons Mountain.

One thing I especially liked was the teacher-student relationship between Miss Hunter and John-Boy. I watched The Triangle just the other day and it's quite clear that he cares for her quite a lot. I don't believe he is supposed to have had any romantic inclination, but I do think it's left ambiguous enough to be interpreted any way you like. It's quite a shame there was never any kind of goodbye for her, the whole family clearly liked her a lot.

Ya, it seems like she just disappeared. It would have been nice in the later episodes, even if John Boy or one of the other children, mentioned her someway. I think everyone has a teacher in their life that they will never forget.

I wrote a post on Miss Hunter awhile back. She kind of reminded me of my early school teachers about the time the show was aired in the early 1970s. She was a beautiful lady and I didnt know her name was Mariclaire until I read it here. Good post on Miss Hunter AR!15 and she and John Ritter were missed after they left the show although JR certainly got his big break even bigger than the Waltons as Jack Tripper on Threes Company. Ever notice how big stars are on another show guest starring or in a regular role shorly before their big break. Talk soon. waltonsportwriter

Yeah that episode was interesting. I dont think John Boy was looking at Miss Hunter romantically. John Boy was a little younger than Reverend Fordwick. I dont know how old Richard Thomas was to John Ritter. Anyway I think John Boy wanted her attention and Rev Fordwicks courting got in the way of that. Thats the jealousy in the Triangle as I saw it. Not a romantic competition so much. waltonsportwriter
