Yes seriously, because most all of the traditional southern foods are fried. Paula Deen = prime example. Wow I've never heard of frying broccoli!! That's new to me.

I'm wondering if the broccoli was "stir-fried" -- if something must be fried, stir-fried is the way to go !! ... happens so fast that there is little time for the fat to infuse the food....
Regarding frying food in general, it just seems to me that I've been bombarded for 20-30 years on tv, the internet, and various newspapers and magazines about cholesterol and other health hazards.... so, occasional fried foods are okay, I guess, but I basically avoid them.

I like broccoli, but I don't think I would like it fried.

Greens are so good for you, and frying adds tons of calories and destroys many nutrients. I think that enjoying them is an acquired taste. I have had baked kale chips, which are delicious, and I like sea greens (nori and hijiki, for example.) EAT YOUR GREENS! (glad you said that about frying...)
You could be right about "acquired" taste.... I am thankful that my parents (okay, Mom!) served vegetables at every dinner, and different ones.... My two sisters and I all like vegetables.... seldom is a day missed without veggies.... and for some reason we don't require a lot of seasoning to enjoy them.... so, I think it's gotta be a childhood thing -- Woe on the mommies out there who don't do their children good service by "indoctrinating" them early !!
Of course, both sets of grandparents did the same..... it amazes me that today many somehow think that society just recently "learned" about nutrition -- when many generations back folks had figured a lot of it out.... was it Ben Franklin who said "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" ? .... well, someone did !!
