Mary ellen would have been killed if she ran off with him.
Something wasnt right about him. I think he was running from the law or something.

He could have been a sex offender that preyed on young women. But then again , maybe not , he told Mary-Ellen she was just a kid and she ran off crying untill she met John-Boy on the road.
He reminded me of guy who was fascinated with Erin/Gabrielle. Maybe they were related ??

Two good points!
One was odd in my opinion, the other was proven odd. Either way it made for two interesting episodes; miles apart in the Walton timescale. :-)

I don't think he was anything like a sex offender or even a jerk for that matter if he was he would told her she could come with he for the first night then told her to go back home. Of course John, John Boy and Grandpa would be out looking for him with shotguns.

Gee guys, he couldn't have been a sex offender (very modern term) as marriage/hooking up was leagal at puberty.

I just watched that episode the other day. The Waltons allowed him in their home and he treated Mary Ellen with respect and let her run away. You would worry if he didn't. I see the stereotype with him being a drifter but people who dont look strange can be really weird. This Jamie fellow didnt bother me that much. My opinion though. waltonsportwriter

Idk, Maybe it was just me..
I got a Charles Manson vibe from him. Isnt that what Charlie did ? Go around with a guitar and recruit young women for his "family"?

Takes many kinds of people to make this world. The eccentric, the strange, the weird .... are usually more interesting !! And, they are just as deserving of compassion and assistance as anyone else.....Usually, the more gifted or talented, the more off-center they may be...... They are there not to be judged, but to be enjoyed....

The minstrel guy reminded me of a lesser Woody Guthrie, or Will Geer for that matter. Same timing. I wish they had newsclips of Will traveling around with Woody!
To his credit, the minstrel guy was collecting old American songs, presumably to archive them somewhere..... much as did Pete Seeger and others.....

There is a wonderful gem of a movie called "song catcher" that is about a women musicologist who collects songs in Appalachia. Very good. I watch it more than Spencer's Mountain. www.imdb.com/title/tt0210299/plotsummary
