Hey Marilyn, I was on rockfish-river for a long time last week looking at these plans. I thought it was odd, like it's off kilter! Crooked, sideways, something or am I just looking at it wrong? I was never good at directions, maps, instructions!!! No, I've not been in the recipe! LOL

The shape of this floor-plan is definitely off-kilter and not common for that time period. Most two stories, even today, are rectangles. I've never seen this shape before, but I like it.

I always used to think that Grandma and Grandpa's bedroom was at the rear of the house adjacent to the kitchen and behind the staircase....or did I visualize it wrong?

Hello, This plan was developed following a floor plan that I got once from Ralph Giffin, who sadly passed away in 2010. Of course this is not the floor plan how the house would look like inside, if you look at the house from the outside. But if you would assemble the house only after the interior scenes, then the first floor would look like this. The house is only a shell, the first floor was constructed on stage 26 on Warner Bros. site. Best wishes, Dagmar

There are no plans for the second floor. The rooms and the walls were build individually as required. Only the first floor was set up permanently in the studio.
River, thank you for the fantasy floor plans. This is a very interesting website to me.

Yes, the house used for filming was just a shell... Glenn, the doorway into Zeb's bedroom is right at the first landing of the staircase, putting the bedroom at the front of the house. In the living room, you can also see the other door that goes into their bedroom.

Thanks dogmargermany, I knew the "house" was a shell but in my mind it's a real house! I always thought there was an upstairs with walls seperating the rooms. When they went upstairs was the landing just a floor with railing to keep from falling? Scenes would be cut at that point & restarted on the next stage?

Yup, two staged areas.. a couple of the bedrooms were the same room as well.

I've always made my own floor plans -- a hobby since about 10yrs old. For the Waltons, I just ignore the necessity of camera angles (unlike the ones you can find online) -- makes it much more "livable." I know I've brought up certain aspects many times on the forum.... like the fact that there is absolutely no room for an attic!! There are so many discrepancies between what you see inisde, and the exterior, and changes they make along the way, and what's really possible ..... all you can do is fantasize and enjoy !

So right Jerijet! TV magic makes it happen. There are so many tv homes that look nothing like their interiors.

Every time I see a full shot of the first floor from the kitchen, I wonder where the load-bearing wall is... Bwaaahaaaa!
