I agree with Marilyn.
The show sure did suffer when Mama left. Though it was still better than today's TV.

I think 'back in the old days' when people came down with consumption/TB, many of them did have to leave their families to be isolated in a sanitorium. My mother-in-law told me once that the last time she ever saw her mother was when she got on a train to go to a TB hospital.

I'm sure doing a series is a tiresome time consuming job and can understand not wanting to be type cast. But, I would feel like I was letting every one down by walking away. If I had been hired to portray a character as important as "mama" I think I would feel obgliated to see it to the end. IMO Michael should have stayed in the series and been on the specials too. Yes, some actors have been type cast and it's strange to see them in other roles. Christopher Reeves-Superman Ron Perlman-Vincent Beauty and the Beast now stars on Anarchy Don Knotts-Barney There are others but these came to mind. I really don't think Michael would have been type cast and therefore stopping her from going on to do other projects. How does every one else feel? Do you agree/disargee she shoul have stayed.

I'm not sure that I would go with the words "agree/disagree that Michael should have stayed", but I wish that Michael had stayed with the show because to me she will be the only actress who can ever play the role of Olivia, but I also do respect her decision to leave. Michael was not contractually obligated to stay with the show, and so, if she was tired or bored or felt that she would be typecasted, then I think that she made the right decision for her. Many other actresses/actors have made similar decisions in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Similarly, many people in all walks of life do make the decision to leave their jobs in order to pursue other career opportunities. What it all boils down to is that people make decisions that they feel are best for them.

I understand that every one regardless of their job can get tired, bored, and want a change. I'd say almost every one has felt that at some point. I'm sure she made the decision she felt was best for her, it's just my selfishness that wishes she'd stayed.

I think her main problem was that she was tired, and dealing with alot.
I wish that she had done what I wish that Richard had done - appear every so often or even come in one day to shoot several appearances to insert in the shows here and there. She (and Richard) were sorely missed.
