Mary Ellen:
#pretty much dumped on GW. He was a nice dude, and she bossed him around , threathened him with violence all the time, and threw him away to her sister like a hand me down.
# poor old David Spencer...Nice dude and she totally ripped his heart out at the wedding rehearsel. mary-ellen Kissed Curt outside of the church while David was inside planning the wedding. Then she led him on again when Curt was in the army. plus, she used him for drugs.(edit-lol-that part cracks me up everytime I read it.. It's true though. She did)
#Curt willard- see above- she was tempting david spencer while he was in the army. She basically ignored and did the opposite of everything he said. She liked driving him crazy. Heck, curt made up an excuse when she tracked him down after the war. I think he was just sick of her. He was sick of wars (edit-lol-ok, that part is just my speculation)
Erin-
#She knew GW liked her, but she used him for rides to work and other stuff. Basically, went to the army to impress her..Gw should have stayed away from the walton girls.
# that Chad dude-She led him on and basically could have got him shot by john sr during that elopement.
#ashley longworth-not a bad dude at 1st-but during that renunion movie-she brought out the worst in him...see next post
# Paul whats his name- Made Paul jealous by fooling around with Ashley longworth...right in front of his face. played both of them so bad that got into a fight. no wonder they got divorced. do ya blame him? (edit-I forgot that the reason for the divorce was that he cheated on her, like I said-do you blame him? I'm surprised she didnt look up David Spencer to kick him aaround some more.lol)
Elizabeth
Well, you dont really see her treating Drew that bad in the series. He was kind of dumb. in the renuion movies it is implied that she kinda dumped him for the thrill of traveling around the world. (edit and He was faithful to her when he was in college, but once SHE graduated high school-see ya, drew!!!)
note (this is supposed to be humorous)

What a fun post -- and I agree with you ! Even about Erin -- I never cared for her. Too wishy-washy, [edited by moderator], and never thought she was as pretty as everyone else thought..... To be fair, the writers didn't do much good for her -- mostly rather silly parts, little substance. She had the least "personality" -- each of her siblings had much more. Guess there's one like that in every family. Boy, I'm irritating a lot of folks out there with this one.....

I agree that it was unfair of Mary Ellen to leave David Spencer for Curt, but did she ever actually kiss David after she was with Curt? I don't remember that, though I do remember her being tempted once when they had a fight. Erin though, while I like her throughout the rest of it (she's my second favourite child after John-Boy) I really dislike her in that one reunion movie where she's choosing between Ashley Longworth Jr and Paul Northridge. She's just so horribly fickle about the whole thing and doesn't seem to treat it seriously at all. I can't think of the name of the episode right now, but it's one of the first three movies.

A couple of people have complained about this thread, and I did slightly edit one post in the thread. I am hoping that I am correct in assuming that you are criticizing the character of Erin and the storylines that were given to her by the writers of the episodes, and that you are not criticizing Mary McDonough or her acting skills. I think Mary is a wonderful actor and a wonderful, warm and caring person. I wouldn't want her to read this thread and get the wrong idea. Negative posts about the actors on The Waltons will not be tolerated on this forum. They gave us over 200 episodes of quality television that we are still watching and discussing more than 30 years later. I think we should show them some appreciation, not criticism.
Thanks for your cooperation.

I think the writers could have developed the character of Erin better. I think her best episode was the First Casualty when GW dies. Really liked the interaction between Ralph and her at the end.
I did not like it when she was going to elope with Chad. Never understood that she could not have waited the 3 or so episodes till she graduated? How long would they have had to wait...a few months? I would have liked them to give her a boyfriend and really develop that relationship. All those boys made her fickle and trivialized her character in my opinion. I blame the writers for that, but maybe they wanted her to be fickle. Also I do think Mary Ellen kisses David after she married Curt. Curt admits to her that he was flirting with a nurse in that same episode.

I just checked The Anniversary s06 e18 this is the ep that Mary-Ellen and David are in the elevator and he comes maybe within a quarter of an inch away from kissing her but she turns her head, so there was no kiss there.

The "Fawn' was the best Erin episode. Plus, she really made that j.d. Pickett guy look like a buffon-That was cool. He was a blow-hard and deserved it. That Guy who played Pickett was a good actor.

Thanks for your cooperation. Brenda Yes, quite right. Like I said, Erin is my second favourite Walton child (after John-Boy), maybe tied with Jason. I thought she was unlikeable in that one movie, but it wasn't down to bad writing (it was well written, and shows that nobody is perfect) and certainly not down to bad acting. And, if we're all gonna give some praise, The Starlet was one of my favourite episodes, as was The Wager, and both of them feature Erin in a major way!

Interesting post and you sure know how to stir the pot awesome though I'm not sure I want to know what kind of stew you have in there lol. Anyway good post and some interesting thoughts about the Walton girls. Mary Ellen was the smartest and was levelheaded in that way but she could be domineering. She could never decide between being the tomboy and the woman growing to be a nurse and then throw romance in I think it confused her and then Curts tragedy at Pearl Harbor was really tough on her of course. She didnt cry enough. Erin was a sweet girl but she was always mixed up when it came to love and other things. I think she finally grew up some at the end of the regular series but she was still indecisive at times and it continued to follow her in life and love in the reunion movies. Finally Elizabeth might have been the best date or love for anyone because she went with the flow and she was a smart girl. Not necessarily nurse and book smart like Mary Ellen but she had a way of figuring things out with her imagination and instincts from Jessica Spy Girl when she was an inquisitive young kid to the Hostage when she used her brains and instinct to avoid getting killed. I should have mentioned that episode in AR!5s post. Good post awesome and keep stirring the pot though careful what you put in the stew lol. Best wishes waltonsportwriter ;D
