Yesterday I watched the first show where Curt showed up....My Gawd, he was just truly annoying....
But I found him to be pretty funny when told Mrs. Brimmer that the only problem she had was that she was FAT, and needed to lose weight...The way he said it was a hoot!..
I still don't know what Mary Ellen saw in him though...And the way he was written after what happened at Pearl Harbor was awful...Seems to me they coulda came up with a better storyline than what they did...including the dreadful recast of the character...

Curt wasn't that bad of a guy. I've known some abrupt dry humor type of people like Curt was but they have a caring and sensitive side and Curt was a good person and doctor. I think thats what Mary Ellen saw in him. Both she and Curt had strong personalities which led to some fights but there was love and why it lasted. As for recasting I never like that but making Curt someone who lied at first and didn't act like he remembered although there obviously was trauma from surviving Pearl Harbor. But I agree the recast could have been better and I wonder what Tom Bower/original Curt was doing at that time. Also what was Richard Thomas up to at the time in the early eighties when Robert Wightman replaced him? He wasn't bad. He just wasnt John Boy in our hearts and minds. Best wishes and talk soon wmfan

I didn't know what to think of Curt in the beginning. He was a little annoying but I really came to like him and enjoyed his character. The way his character was brought back in the end though was one of the top disappointments for me. It would have just been better left alone.

He certainly was rough around the edges, that's for sure and as he said, he was used to working with miners, men. I've worked with men all my life and have found that when I'm around women, I have to be careful how I talk because most of them get upset/offended really easily. Maybe this is why I don't care to be around most women. ;D

I absolutely agree - they should have just left off with what happened at Pearl Harbor.
A silly little part of me likes to think that the original Curt wouldn't have gone along with the storyline and that's why they recast. OMGosh, what the writers did to Curt was just awful.
When he first arrived, the sparks flew. Jerk or not, Mary Ellen fell for him. Been there, done that

I guess I'm probably partial to David because I remember when the actor played Bo Buchannan on one of the soaps I used to watch called "One Life To Live", LOL!!!

Curt looks about 20 years older than Mary Ellen which bothers me as well.

Tom Bower is 20 years older than Judy Norton. That really doesn't bother me, because I had a set of grandparnets that were about 29 or 30 years between them. There is 12 1/2 years between my husband and I.
I wonder what the age difference is between Earl's sister Marion (Mary Ellen) and her husband and what kind of character he has?

I liked Curt and I enjoyed the relationship he shared with Mary Ellen. Loved his abruptness and the way he just let it fly when he told people what his feelings were. My favorite episode with his character was the one where he and Mary Ellen are planning a picnic, (he thinks it will be just the two of them - alone, but almost her whole family somehow gets intertwined), great story.
Bringing his character back (with a different actor) was a huge bummer.

He did get very annoyed with her family being around though and I actually thought it would have been great to be around the family alot, IF the family was like the Waltons.

For those of you who find his humor dry and blunt, I recommend Doc Martin. It's Curt x 10!

The age difference bothered me, but I liked how he handled Mary Ellen. David Spencer was too nice and if Mary Ellen had married him, she would have moved to Richmond and we wouldn't have seen her.
