Wish they had some interactions with Olivia's parents. Guess they figured 2 more characters would be a very large cast and too much for the viewers to keep straight, better to say they are dead. River, that's my thoughts too. I'm sure the production team wanted to keep cost down so it would make sense to act as if they were dead. I have The Prophecy recorded and will watch to see if I catch Olivia's maiden name, if it's mentioned.

I just find it odd, that the children never mentioned their other grandparents. Not even John Boy did. Why wouldn't he want to know the history and stories from his other grandparents?

On the-waltons.com (note link on the forum's home page), there are huge listings of all "relationships" from the show, well documented by episode -- family, ancestors, friends, neighbors, etc. Much fun to speculate about here, however....

There is some mention of Olivia's mother in the episode 'The Shivaree' when her young namesake, Olivia, comes to the mountain to marry 'Bob' as her own mother is dead and she has no family. In her room the two Olivia's talk about how their mothers were close friends.

In The Scholar (season 1) there is mention of Olivia's sister. Olivia and Grandma leave to help with Olivia's nieces wedding. When Olivia is wondering if she should go John said something like ~ your sister is counting on you. This is the ep where Verdie comes to care for Erin after she has her tonsils out and John Boy teaches Verdie to read.

You would think if John and Olivia went to the same school then her family live on Walton's Mountain too. Unlike what my Father told me when I was little, kids really didn't walk 40 miles to school up hill both ways ;D Also I remember when his mother showed us the house they lived in when he grew up funny it was right across the street from the school.

LOL Tonyray, my dad tells me the same thing! He also said for Christmas, if they got an orange, that was the biggest treat ever!

I don't think the Waltons Mtn school existed when John and Livy were in school..... I think they both went to a central school in Rockfish, 'tho John may have lived on the mountain, and Livy grew up in Albemarle or Edgemont (?)..... and we know that John was at least 4 years ahead of Livy..... I believe population growth in the area necessitated the establishment of the Waltons Mtn School at some point after both John's and Olivia's completion of school..... In my family, although we kids and Mom spent 8-10 weeks every year up on maternal grandparents' farm, we were much closer to my paternal grandparents on a daily basis, because of proximity. There was little talk about the folks "upstate" except around the holidays or when a visit was upcoming..... I think when a "wife" settles in with her husbands' folks, in their house and their "town", their whole life revolves around that setting and her relatives get put on the back burner..... That's pretty much how it went with my parents......

I think that John and Livy did go to school together in Walton's Mountain because the references about it are too numerous to mention - not that I could anyway - I don't study the show the way some do. Livy's family was part of the Spencer's Mountain story, so I think the writers kept to the Walton's side until it suited their purpose to do otherwise. The visit to her aunt and the house she grew up in in Albany came later when the writers were running dry.

I couldn't make out the place she said though.

Daneila, I have always wondered and wanted to know more about Livy's parents too. Didn't she say in the Homecoming that her parents were against her marrying John? Maybe they had a huge falling out and never spoke to each other again, extreme I know, but that does happen in familys for real....LOL
I remember Livy telling Elizabeth about how a pretty girl caught every boys eye including Johns, in special about Easter I think, and seems to me I have heard Livy mention that she and John dated in school.
I have always been frustrated from the lack of knowing...lol
