Does anyone know why Olivia's parents are not seen or spoken of? I wonder if they would have gotten along with Grandma and Grandpa? Would the kids have been as close with them? I think some good storylines could have happened if they were involved in the family, even just for a visit. Any thoughts on that?

I always wondered why Olivia's parents or family wasn't mentioned more often. There was Aunt Kate who came on when she was sick and I think she had an Aunt Rose when she had menopause. Otherwise no mention much of her family and the children didn't interact with their mothers side of the family much whoever was there. That was weird and I've always wondered about some explanations on Olivia's family as well. My grandparents were quiye good friends with each otherThanks daniela. Best wishes wmfan

I seem to remember that it was said that Olivia's parents were dead but I can't recall the episode.
This might be because Grandma and Grandpa Walton were a composite of Earl's maternal and paternal grandparents as he grew up with both sets of grandparents living nearby

I never thought of that Carol. I just find it weird that Olivia never mentioned her parents, and the kids never talked about them. You are probably right.

The on Y time I remember Olivia bringing up family was when Rose came to live with them. Olivia said Rose cared for her when she was very ill as a child. I guess you could make an assumption maybe her parents died young.

Well, her aunt Kate was her mother's sister, I think. And I believe Rose was connected to Olivia through that side of her family as well. I'm not sure though. Somewhere on this board it was said that Olivia's maiden name was Daly.

When Olivia went to see her aunt Kate in The Milestone, she mentioned her parents have been gone a long time.

On the-waltons.com (note link on the forum's home page), there are huge listings of all "relationships" from the show, well documented by episode -- family, ancestors, friends, neighbors, etc. Much fun to speculate about here, however....

Wish they had some interactions with Olivia's parents. Guess they figured 2 more characters would be a very large cast and too much for the viewers to keep straight, better to say they are dead.

Hi River, Good point, I just think even if they came to visit, It would have made some good stories. Maybe Grandma wouldn't have liked another grandma in her kitchen ( like Martha Corinne) in the Pony Cart.

I think it was Aunt Jessie So is Aunt Jessie is on Olivia's side? I think there is another thread on this site that says she is Olivia's aunt. I think that I can see that the characters of Zeb and Esther were a composite of both sets of grandparents. In the book and movie Spencers Mountain, which the Waltons is based on, it seemed to me that Olivia's mother Ida was more strict and straight-laced than the paternal grandmother. That is just my interpretation though. Others might not see it that way.

Somewhere on this board it was said that Olivia's maiden name was Daly. I believe someone on another thread mentioned once that The Prophecy was where it was mentioned that Olivia's maiden name was Daly. I watched that one today and I did not catch it. Was there ever any other time it was established or mentioned.
