There are no words for someone to compare a victim of rape to someone flirting.

The wing walker is about rape and the fact that JB can't stomach a woman who has been raped. It is not about infidelity.

Batty....that is a terribly stong statement and I for one feel as though you are way wrong!! John Boy is/was a better man than that. He makes reference to the fact that he realized that his feelings for Bobbi were not all that honorable......he was feeling lust. He did not want to lead her on and end up hurting. That (IMO) is why he backed off, he saw himself being aggressive and that is what I feel he couldn't "stomach".

We all see things differently or this would be a boring place. That is Batty's reality of the show. I can see it both ways.

It is not about infidelity. nor is it about flirting. I am not even going to claim to know what the writers had in mind at the time as far as how this tied in with the Hamners experiences.

I just saw this episode. Unfortunately for John Boy, his feelings did change for Bobby after he learned of the rape. That's the way some men are in these circumstances. They see the woman as being "damaged goods". Not all men react this way though to a woman who was raped. If I had been John Boy, I would have loved her with everything I had and would have helped her overcome the bad memories of her rape. John Boy missed out on a beautiful sensual woman who loved him, and who was willing to give up dare-devilling for him for a more sensible and safe lifestyle. This episode shows the dark and backward side of John Boy. But, afterall, nobody is perfect, no even John Boy.

Ooh what an interesting topic.
I'm a straight lady, but I have to say, that girl was GOR-GEOUS. Period.
And she's gonna be at the benefit in September.
I don't think that John-Boy thought she was "damaged". I think that, being inexperienced with women, he had no idea how to handle the situation. Also, in that era it was pushed, pushed, pushed to stay "pure" until marriage. Maybe he was worried about other peoples' judgement? I think simply put, he couldn't wrap his mind about the horrificness of the situation. And if he did have an impure thought or two about her (who wouldn't?), he was probably ashamed of himself.
I remember when I first watched it wondering WTH his problem was LOL.

I don't think that John Boy was afraid to go after the woman he loved. If you remember the beautiful darked haired writer from New York with whom he fell in love, and with whom he almost went to New York. He urged her not to go back to New York, but in the end she did, and he couldn't bring himself to uproot himself from the Mountain. But, because Bobby was no longer a virgiin, which back then did mean "damaged goods" by the community, he could not allow himself to follow through with his feelings for her, which in effect, changed his feelings for her.

The scene up in his roon Bobbie is going to stop wing walking and she is pretty much admitting she is in love with John Boy. Then he accidently or unknowingly says the wrong thing. Fragile Bobbie cant handle it and she shuts down and turns away from John Boy. I always wondered what John Boy could have said or done to make Bobbie happy, but sometimes its just mostly about her feelings and reaction and nothing can be done on his part. She was the best looking woman he was with I agree Scarlett even more than the Woman and others. John Boy still carried himself as a gentlemen throughout. I wonder how these women related to women Earl Hamner went out with if Earl is supposed to be John Boy. Best wishes waltonsportwriter

I can understand how Bobbie felt for another reason which was an old family secret----My grandfather when my mother was 14 got drunk and committed incest with my mother. She always had psychic scars from it.
