I saw Ralph Waite on CSI the other night. He plays the father. In his 80s he physically reminds me of Andy Griffith in his 80s too.

"The Wingwalker" was in season 4, and the actor who played the pilot is the same one who played Curt Willard and married Mary Ellen in "The Wedding" season 5.
They must have worked hard to find actors with a 1930's - 40's look, and this actor was a good example, something about him reminded me of the depression era.
I like the way some of the small often nameless character actors reappeared in episodes, it added a reality to the Waltons Mountain region.

Dennis Redfield appeared in 3 episodes: 'The System', where he is cast as the Boatwright College Honor Council President. The The 'Fledgling', where he is cast as a room mate with John Boy when John Boy temporarily gets a job in the city so that he can earn enough money for a printing press, and The Obstacle, where he is cast as a war buddy of John Boy, and comes home crippled from the war.

Wasn't he also the upperclassman who was very mean to JohnBoy on his first day of college?

Yes!!! And he made comments about John Sr. And John Sr. asked JB if they were his friends and JB said that they were not his friends (or something similar). So I was surprised when we find him as a "friend" of JB

I think that the upperclassman and the president of the honor council may have been the same character. And then the room mate and the friend wounded in the war were another character altogether. It just so happens that the same actor played all of them.

That's right, I think he did play an upper classman on JB's first day of college.

Also there is an older man who played one of JohnBoy's professors and he is used quite often. He also played one of the men who came to see Zadok about the orchard he was deeding to the university. He also played the professor who wants JB to help set up a TV dept.

I noticed that certain directors like to reuse particular actors. Michael Landon did the same thing on LHOTP. He used people from his Bonanza days and cast them in LHOTP. Not to mention he reused the same actors over and over again on LHOTP. I guess if you are a character actor, you better be easy to work with so you can come back.

David Huddleston played Sheriff Bridges in The Homecoming and appears on The Waltons as the first AJ Covington.

According to IMDb, Dennis Redfield played the same character, Mike Paxton, each time he was on the show, which surprised me, as I thought his first appearance where he picks on John Boy during his first day @ college was a different character. From IMDb: The Waltons (TV series)
Mike Paxton / Council President Mike Paxton / Paxton – The Obstacle (1979) … Mike Paxton – The Fledgling (1976) … Mike Paxton – The System (1974) … Council President Mike Paxton – The First Day (1974) … Paxton

I just watched the system and Mike is not called that by name. It must be implied.
