I guess that question was for me Marilyn. My wife is not as much into The Waltons as I am. She is a city girl. I watch them quite often and sometimes she watches with me. I think she likes it better than she will admit. Bless her heart, she just bought me season 5 for a surprise and I can't get number one disc to play. As for myself and I have probably already mentioned this, I am as about as much of a country boy as they get.

Apparently the site is down for the time being. I googled the site and it's saying it's not available, so they must be doing work on it or something. RYAN-J

Aaron (Also for anyone else who posted info about the house facade on here), Being an huge Waltons fan, and also from having emailed with all three of the Walton girls on FaceBook, here are the facts accurately: The original outdoor sets (House, Barn, Mill, Smokehouse, Tree House, Chicken Coop, Shed, Garden, New Mill, etc.) were originally on the old Burbank lot which was on the front side of Warner Bros. In 1991, due to a fire (some say arson, but I have yet to get the facts on what started the fire) the entire house facade was lost and part of the barn. They rebuilt the house and the barn (but no shed, and the tree house was in a different spot and not the same, and the chicken coop was smaller and different and no new mill (the one John built and got sick and landed in the hospital so all came to help finish building it.) I have read a couple of articles that stated they rebuilt everything to the original blueprint. This is false. If you remember in the original series, everytime they showed the side of the house by the shed, you could see another part of the house to the back sticking out, also this was true in a couple of episodes where someone went to the side and behind the screened porch room, the house continued and there was even the window that would have been where the ironing board was inside. If you look at any pictures of the rebuilt house, it ends at the back of the screened porch room and goes straight across flat. Also the original house had a vent up by the roof (where they installed the lightening rod in one episode) which is not there on the rebuilt house. Also, you will notice that the landscaping on either side of the house is completely different from the original. The original sets outside were built completely as if a real property (they could walk through the old mill to the smoke house, etc.) The barn is a good example of this. The original barn was a complete barn all around and also inside with the hay loft, animal stalls, etc. The rebuilt barn was only two sided (if you have seen the pictures) containing the front and (if facing the barn) the right side that attaches to the old saw mill. If you look to the left it is proped up by what appears to be 2 x 4's and there is nothing behind it. Even the roof isn't complete. Also, in the original series you will notice that the barn doors are almost straight across from the side of the front porch of the house. The rebuilt barn's doors are way way forward from the house away from the side of the porch. I think that when they rebuilt it, they thought it was just going to be there for the sake of the studio tour and visually would be perfect enough for those seeing it. I don't think they knew at the time that two years later they would be filming a Waltons reunion movie. Ok, so when they did, the set decorator put in the hedges in front of the porch and so on. But if you have seen those reunion movies you will note that they never showed the shed, the side of the house on that side, nor did they show past the screened porch room. Also, since they built the new mill in the series, why then were John and Ben and Drew cutting wood and building in the old mill off the barn?...Why? Because they did not rebuild the new mill on the set. Also, on the original outdoor set, the cellar was actually built (there are a few episodes where grandma or grandpa go into or come out of the cellar actually coming up or going down stairs. The rebuilt set only has the cellar doors for visual and there is no real cellar. Also, someone mentioned that they thought the house burning was part of an episode...It was, "The Burnout." That fire was intentional and was achieved with special pyrotechnic effects and fire that did not actually burn the structure. The side of the house where the shed would have been. Here are the other pics I could not put on my last posting. This is the side of the house on the original outdoor set with shed and all. Notice how the house continues behind the main side of the house. The other two pics at the bottom of the post show the barn. Notice how the mill is completely closed along the back. on the original set, it was all open so they could walk through to go to the back by the smoke house. The other barn pic shows how it is not a real barn. The original set had a full complete real barn inside and out. Attachments:

That fire shooting out of the dormers looked awfully real to me. Amazing what special effects people can accomplish. That was a very interesting post btw. Great pics, too.
