I had recently been checking into this...and thought maybe some of you could share with me about some of the sets regarding the Waltons. I am really interested in know if the Waltons house...from the set that is now at Warner Bros is still there? I know a few years back it was later used as a set--for a hotel in a TV series later on or something? I know that they have backlot tours of different movie sets and the Waltons house is one of them. Looking forward to hearing info from some of you on this and if maybe some of you saw it in the past 5 years it would be great to hear more and see some pictures!!

Hello there. I have heard that the oringinal Waltons house was buned down by an arsonist but they built it back. The only thing is, the one they built back has four dormers on the roof instead of three like the original.

Hi Aaron, Yes, the Waltons House and barn are still there on the back lot of the Warner Brothers Ranch. I saw it in 2004 and again in 2007. It was used in the "Gilmore Girls" as the Dragonfly Inn, so it was changed somewhat. It's now painted yellow with an additional upstairs dormer window on the left side. It still looks enough like the original Walton place to be easily recognized. You can see pictures of it on my Waltons Reunion website at: www. webspawner.com/users/WaltonsMountain/

Hey Tom. Was I right about the original house that they used making the show was burned down by an arsonist and they rebuilt it and that is why it has four dormers instead of three like the original did?

Wow, I didn't know the Waltons on tv actually burn down. (I thought, it was part of the show or Earl Hamners background.)

Is the Waltons house an actual house, or just a front like so many Hollywood filming stages?

Hey Marilyn. I saw pictures of the original house and it was just a plain house with nothing inside. It was a complete house but the back was plain with no windows. I can't think now where I saw those pictures. If I remember I'll let you know. I guess they shot the inside scenes in a studio where the sets were built.

I don't know anything about whether the house burned down or not, but there are photos of the house at this address. It looks like most of the pictures were taken about 10 years ago. Apparently, the house and barn are on the Warner Brother's Ranch along with several famous houses from movies and tv shows-"I Dream of Jeannie", "Christmas Vacation", "Bewitched", etc. www.1164.com/ranch/photos/index.html

Those are really good photos and it's sad to see it's just a set with nothing behind it...I'll have to look real close when watching the Waltons and see if they ever show the side porch entry enough to show it's cut off. Thanks for the link!

Excellent pictures! So the outside scenes were filmed there and the inside scenes were filmed....close by? I had no idea the house was fake like that, by looking at the side view. Kinda sad... I think I'll go have a beer. Sigh....

If you go to virginiagirl's link... www.1164.com/ranch/photos/index.html...and look at the "Pool and Fountain" gallery (next to the Waltons gallery) you'll recognize the fountain from a couple of episodes. First being the episode (Season 7, "The Empty Nest") where John travels to Richmond to negotiate the lumber contract with Matt Sarver. The fountain is located outside John's hotel and we see several shots of it during the course of the episode. Next time we see it is in season 9 ("The Premonition"). Set in Paris, this is the episode where John Boy falls in love with Simone, the bookshop owner. There's a night scene where John Boy commandeers an outdoor puppet theater and this takes palce near the same fountain.

If I am not mistaken, the fountain is also used in the opening segment of the sitcom "Friends". I remember it was also on episodes of "Bewitched",along with the Baldwin ladies' house, sometimes called the "Sheila House", because a wealthy ex-girlfriend of Darrin's lived there.
It is true that the exteriors of TV homes are separate from the interior sets. The exteriors are known as facades because there is nothing behind the exteriors.
The cast members could answer this question better than I could but it seems I remember reading that the food at the Walton table was fake. This was mentioned in another thread.

I've seen some episodes where they show the whole house from the side and it's the whole house, so they must have had a few sets. I'm to assume most of this was filmed in CA and the intro where they pan the mountains was filmed in the Virginia's?
