So I was just wondering which people prefer? I mean it might be a bit biased posting this on The Waltons Forum but still I'de like to know generally which is prefered and reasons why Personally I prefer The Waltons because I think that the stories ae more for an adult audience then Little House as I feel that Little House can sometimes be very childish (e.g I recently saw an episode about Carrie's adventures in her imagination world with her imaginary friend where they travel to fairy tale worlds...) though it still does have serious episodes (E.g when they have there third child and it dies.)

Interesting question. Both shows were on during the same time period, both were good family oriented shows, and fans of one tend to be fans of the other.
My personal preference is The Waltons. The main reason is because Earl Hamner himself created the show and his influence lasted throughout the series. On the other hand, Little House on the Prairie, which was supposedly based on the Little House series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, bore little resemblence to Wilder's books, and I seriously doubt that she would have approved of the show had she been alive.
I also think the the writing in The Waltons was superior to the writing of Little House. To me, The Waltons is just a better show.

same here. the 'little house.......' is more suited to younger members of the family Althugh I did love Mrs Olsens character, also her hubby and daughter Nellie In fact she reminded me of Corabeth's character in a way Haven't we all met folk like them? - I know I have.

There was some very good acting on Little House. I agree with ali about the Oleson family characters. I love the way they were portrayed on the show. Alison Arngrim was great as Nellie, and her character was very much like the Nellie Oleson character of the Little House books. Here is the description of Nellie, the first time Laura meets her Nellie Oleson was very pretty. Her yellow hair hung in long curls, with two big blue ribbon bows on top. Her dress was thin white lawn, with little blue flowers scattered over it, and she wore shoes. She looked at Laura and she looked at Mary, and she wrinkled up her nose. "Hm!" she said. "Country girls!". (from On the Banks of Plum Creek) (Garth Williams illustration of Nellie's party in On the Banks of Plum Creek) Can you tell I love these books? Brenda

We have to admit that Nellie was the brattiest---I am sure Mary Ellen would have never treated a girl who stuttered the way Nellie treated Anna. You can understand why Harriet gave Nels the shotgun when Nellie said she was married and Harriet said"Make her a widow". Olivia nearly had a chance to do that once but 1) Erin did not get married then and 2)Olivia was not that kind of woman----

The episode in which Carrie creates an imaginary friend{The Fairy Godsister} may be considered childish but we must remember it was initially shown the Wednesday before Christmas.1978---the time of year which is a wonderful time for fantasies and adventures for children.
